Mitchell Grobb is one of Canada's premier fiddlers, known for his smooth sound, captivating performances and unique style. A seasoned veteran of the stage,
he is an acclaimed world-wide touring musician, having toured and performed for audiences in 18 countries throughout North and Central America, Europe, Asia, and the South Pacific.
He has appeared as a solo artist, as well as with several bands and musical theatre shows.
Mitchell got his start on the violin in 1989 at age five in the Suzuki violin program at Brandon University in Brandon, Manitoba, Canada. He studied classical music privately for eleven years, first with Cameron Baggins and later, Robert Richardson Jr . At Brandon University, Mitchell was a member of the Brandon Conservatory Youth Orchestra and an award winning chamber music ensemble.
In 1992, Mitchell began studying the Canadian old time fiddle style in addition to his classical violin studies. He began competing in the Canadian fiddle contest circuit, and by age twelve, he had won the title of Manitoba Open Fiddle Champion, the youngest musician in history to do so. He has competed at competitions across Canada and the United States, and has over 250 awards to his credit.
Mitch was a founding member of the popular fiddle group, “The Fantasy Fiddlers”. The group of young fiddlers met while attending classical violin classes together at Brandon University, and after a few jam sessions, the group was officially formed and quickly became one of the most sought after music acts in the region. At age 13, Mitchell served as teacher and performance leader of the group, a position he held from 1995-2000. During his 8 years with the group, Mitchell entertained audiences across Manitoba, Saskatchewan and North Dakota, including a performance for the Prime Minister of Canada.
During a trip to Nashville, Tennessee in 1997, Mitch was introduced to many different styles of fiddling including Blues, Rock, Jazz, Ukrainian, Latin, Irish, Gypsy and Bluegrass, which greatly shaped and diversified his traditional Canadian fiddling style. Although the fiddle has always been and continues to be Mitchell’s primary focus, he can also be heard playing the mandolin, bodhran, alto saxophone, bass guitar, and piano. His work as a voice-over artist can be heard on television and radio stations in commercials, promotions and public announcements.
At age 17, Mitchell joined "Barrage", a high energy 9 piece fiddle show based in Calgary, Canada. He performed with Barrage for four years at a vide variety of venues and events, from small private gatherings to large arena shows. He has appeared with the group in show performances on major television networks in Britain (BBC), Poland (POLSAT), China (CCTV), New Zealand (TVNZ), Taiwan (TTV), the United States (PBS, KTLA, WGN, DISNEY), and Canada (CBC, CTV, GLOBAL, CITYTV, TVA, BRAVO, CMT). In addition to their regular public shows, Mitch also appeared with Barrage at private events for companies like IBM, PepsiCo, General Motors, Toyota, KPMG, and Bristol-Meyers Squibb, and has even played at major sporting events including half time show performances for the NBA's Detroit Pistons, Toronto Raptors and Phoenix Suns. Mitch toured and performed with Barrage from 2002-2006.
In 2006 and 2007, Mitchell performed in the 'Cape Cod' area of Tokyo Disney Sea Resort in Tokyo, Japan.
